We are thrilled that the next placement will take place at Curve, Leicester. The placement will begin in October 2017. The fee is calculated to cover 6 months of your time. The exact timetable and the projects to be worked on will be agreed in consultation between the selected composer and the venue’s artistic planning team, but it’s expected the successful applicant would be based in Leicester for a significant portion of the six months.
To be eligible to apply: you must be a composer who has already had at least one professionally produced musical theatre show (which can include paid work for a drama college or other training institute) – along with other work. Ideally the successful applicant will be based in Leicester for the duration of the placement period, although there is some flexibility. Applicants must be resident in the UK to be eligible. We encourage applicants from the broadest diversity of cultural heritages.
The successful recipient will receive an all-inclusive fee of £11,000.
Through the Cameron Mackintosh Resident Composer scheme emerging musical theatre composers are paired with a venue, and given the opportunity to be involved in a range of work which could include underscoring plays, setting text to music or creating their own piece of new work. This opportunity gives valuable experience of working within a venue environment, building working relationships with a range of venues based professionals. Recent venues have included Soho Theatre, Bristol Old Vic, Watermill, Newbury, Mercury Theatre, Colchester, New Wolsey, Ipswich, West Yorkshire Playhouse and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
This scheme is generously funded by the Cameron Mackintosh Foundation and managed by Musical Theatre Network (MTN) and Mercury Musical Developments (MMD).
