MMD & MTN Auction to Support New British Musical Theatre

September 13th, 2018

Imagine a world without your favourite musicals – without West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar or Sweeney Todd!

If you love musicals as much as we do, a life without these masterpieces would be nowhere near as exciting. But new musicals don’t just appear. They need nurturing. It can take years for a brilliant germ of an idea to make it to the stage. That’s why MMD and MTN exist. To make sure vibrant, original new British musical theatre thrives.

Together MMD and MTN provide showcases, development opportunities and a year round programme of events including BEAM and the UK’s Musical Theatre Conference. We are partially funded by Arts Council England but we couldn’t do any of this development work without kind individual donations.

From people like you, who love musicals to bits, who can’t wait to discover the next Hamilton or Matilda.

And all that starts with supporting new writers. So play your part and bid below. All money raised will go directly towards our core activities.

We’ve put together a fantastic array of items for you to bid on – from tickets to opening nights, coaching and mentoring sessions to cases of champagne! You might want to bid on these items for yourself or perhaps you want to offer encouragement to an aspiring writer.

We’ve put the ‘retail’ value below each item but don’t let this restrain you! Likewise, feel free to bid whatever you can as every little helps!

Bidding will close at 10am on Saturday 29th September. You’ll be able to bid for items (technology allowing) at our September Sing-a-long Social on Friday 28th September at The Other Palace. To book your ticket to attend click HERE.

Thank you for your support.

Tickets to the hit show SIX

Now you can get the best seats in the house to see the show that critics are losing their heads over! See what we did there? Producer (and MMD board member) George Stiles is very generously donating pair of tickets to see the show written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss.

About the show: From Tudor queens to pop princesses, the six wives of Henry VIII finally take to the mic to tell their tales, remixing five hundred years of her-storical heartbreak into a 75 minute celebration of 21st century sisterly sass-itude fuelled by an all-female band. These Queens may have green sleeves but their lipstick is rebellious red.

John will spend 2 hours per month for 12 months working one on one with one lucky writer or a writing team working on a single project. John has been giving MMD members dramaturgy on their scripts for several years:

‘I had the most brilliant and illuminating two and a half hours with John Sparks today in which he helped me overhaul my entire musical! It was a wonderful session and I drank it all in! What a great and supremely wise guy. I can’t TELL you what an absolute delight he was! I couldn’t believe that he was giving over so many pearls of wisdom at the critical stage of my new musical and, as I said to him afterwards, my learning curve was vertical! That was simply the BEST musical theatre tutorial I have ever experienced and that session with John was alone worth my membership of MMD and MTN combined! He brilliantly helped overhaul my show at a very critical stage.’ Barbara Jane Mackie, MMD Member

‘John Sparks was fabulous. Clear, detailed feedback, great examples, supportive and helpful. I believe he does this every year for MMD? Don’t let him go.’ Dr Karen Moloney, MMD Member
