'The Kitchen' is a biannual collaborative programme in partnership with The Central School of Speech and Drama at Swiss Cottage with the MA in Acting Musical Theatre students. The students are 23-30 yr olds with previous drama or singing qualifications and mostly with professional experience.
Ways in which writers use these sessions have included:
- a scratch read-through to identify areas for work in future sessions
- trying out scenes or songs and getting feedback from the students
- improvisation, dramatisation, situation, relationship or character exploration
- trying out scenes in different styles, versions
- trying out songs in different styles, voices, harmonies
- double-casting a scene so actors can offer alternative interpretations
- the integration of movement or choreography into scenes or songs
- making a recording of sung material
