Join us for the first MMD event of 2019; a ‘nuts and bolts’ masterclass focusing on the art and craft of lyric-writing with award-winning lyricist Charles Hart (Phantom of the Opera / Bend It Like Beckham). Charles will talk through his own processes, examine and deconstruct existing lyrics, and give feedback on work presented by members of MMD. The evening will conclude with a Q&A and the chance to ask Charles about his work and career.
Charles was born in London and educated in Maidenhead and Cambridge.
Musicals include: BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM (Howard Goodall); ASPECTS OF LOVE (Andrew Lloyd Webber); THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (Andrew Lloyd Webber). Operas include: MARX IN LONDON (Jonathan Dove, Stadttheater Bonn); BENVENUTO CELLINI (Hector Berlioz, English National Opera); THE VAMPYR (Heinrich Marschner, BBC). Songs include: SEVENTEEN (Claude-Michel Schönberg, sung by Russell Watson); GOODBYE FOR NOW (Richard Rodney Bennett, sung by Claire Martin); A DIVA IS BORN (Jake Heggie, sung by Kiri Te Kanawa and Frederica von Stade). He has also provided both words and music for Granada TV comedies WATCHING and SPLIT ENDS, and a song-cycle for BBC Radio: LOVE SONGS.
Charles is the recipient of two Ivor Novello Awards, and has been nominated twice for a Tony award and once for an Academy Award.
Free to MMD members, £10.00 to non-members
