The musical theatre is a highly collaborative form, and the collaboration only begins with the writing, extending to the entire production team and preview audiences. Many new writers today (young and old) are writing the book, music and lyrics without a partner, which is not a good way to work for many reasons. This session will discuss the art of collaboration in general, and the need for at least one collaborator during the creation phase of a new musical. Quoting the writings of some of the form’s most successful practitioners, and examining scenes and songs from the literature we will examine just how collaboration affects the process and the product.
Free event for MMD members.
