There are currently spaces available in MMD’s Advanced Lab II and applications are open now. The deadline for applications is 10am on Monday 18th August.

MMD’s Advanced Labs are a supportive environment for experienced musical theatre writers to share their work and receive artistic and professional support from a welcoming group of their peers. They are designed to be a place where writers will be challenged and encouraged to become better at their craft, and to create a sense of community in what can otherwise be a rather lonely process.

Lab II is targeted at writers at the early to mid-career stage with a serious commitment to professionally writing musical theatre (NB – ‘Early career’ does not have to mean ‘young’, Lab II has included writers across a wide range of ages). If you’re a writer who is just getting started (or conversely, someone who has been writing for decades!), this might not be quite the right place for you. Applicants must be a current member of MMD.

The members of the Lab will make a one-year commitment to being part of the group and agree to attend a minimum of 7 monthly sessions over 10 months. We will be looking for writers who will make a positive contribution to the Lab and benefit most from joining. The Lab is openly welcoming to writers of all backgrounds. New Lab members would be invited to start from September.

The group normally meets online, on the second Tuesday of every month, 7-9pm. Regular sessions are held on Zoom, with the option of sporadic in-person meet-ups.

Suitable applicants will be invited to a quick chat on Zoom with Natalia and the Lab facilitators, Bella Barlow and Alli Smith, to find out more about you and your work. These will take place on Tuesday 26th August.
