MMD is looking to set up a new ‘Lab’ – a monthly peer support session in which a group of members can meet, discuss and get to know each other’s writing. For many years, MMD has run a monthly Lab for experienced writers in the South East of England, who have had several new musicals produced; this is known as Lab I.
Lab I has now moved to virtual meetings during lockdown, and we want to find writers who would like to be part of a new Lab II.
The first Open Lab will be hosted by Susannah Pearse and Carl Miller, who are both members of Lab II. In the 90 minute participatory session the group will respond to two pieces of work offered up by writers / writing teams. Sue and Carl will also share how they find the peer feedback and support model in Lab I has worked for them, and explore any questions about the Lab process.
Would you be interested in being part of a monthly online Lab?
We expect Lab will suit writers and writing partnerships who are regularly creating work to which they would like peer responses, as well as wanting to support and encourage through their reactions to other group members’ writing.
Would you be prepared to share a piece of your work at an Open Lab?
Do you have a piece of work of ’song’ length – 3-4 minutes – on which you would like feedback as an example of the Lab process? You need a recording you can playback at the session plus documents participants can read (lyric sheet and score or lead sheet, but we can explain more beforehand).
How do I share my work?
Please send your recording of this ‘song’ length work, plus lyric sheets, score sheets or lead sheets as relevant to email@example.com – we’re expecting 2 writers/writing teams to share their work per session, and a selection process will be in place – we will notify you prior to the session if your work is being discussed and whether we need any more information.
Please sign up if you would like to come along and see how a MMD lab works and whether you would be interested in participating in monthly sessions. Please note, numbers are strictly capped however a waiting list has been created to gauge interest.
This is a free event and open only to MMD members who have valid current membership. Please get in touch with firstname.lastname@example.org prior to signing up if you need to discuss your membership or check if you are up to date.
