Noisemaker, the musical theatre writing team of Scott Gilmour and Claire McKenzie, is one of the most successful such partnerships to emerge from Scotland. Their collaboration with director Andrew Panton, Artistic Director of Dundee Rep Theatre, has few equivalents in the UK. Join us for a discussion that will explore the journey of their collaborations to date, sharing insights into the international successes that have resulted, and their roles within the increasing Scottish musical theatre landscape.
Their collaboration began when Andrew was Artistic Director of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s musical theatre programme, and Claire and Scott were recent graduates of RCS; this led to the staging of four of their musicals, including ‘Hi, My Name is Ben’ which premiered at Goodspeed Musicals in Connecticut, USA, before becoming the first Scottish musical selected for NAMT (National Alliance of Musical Theatre)’s annual Festival showcase in 2019. Scott and Claire’s most recent musical, ‘Oor Wullie’, was directed by Andrew at Dundee Rep and then for a national tour of Scotland.
This discussion is supported by PRS Foundation, whose Talent Development grant to MMD & MTN will fund a Scottish musical theatre writers’ group over the coming months, alongside another for musical theatre writers across the North of England.
Both groups will initially run online and are focused on peer-to-peer feedback and collaboration. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com if you are a Scottish or North of England writer who is interested in developing your new musical through a writers’ group.
Registrations for this event are encouraged so we can send you the link to watch – tickets for MMD and MTN members are free, and pay what you can donations are encouraged for non members.
