Alejandro Postigo is a musical theatre artist and scholar who lectures at the London College of Music, University of West London, UK. His practice-based PhD from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama explores the Intercultural Adaptation of Spanish Copla songs in international theatre settings. His research is evidenced by his artistic work, which challenges pre-existing notions of Anglophone musical theatre and Spanish copla as historically known, and encourages a diversified approach of making cultural exchanges in musical theatre work. He is leader of HisPanic Breakdown, an Anglo-Spanish theatre collective developing works such as ‘Men on the Verge of a HisPanic Breakdown’ (USA, 2009), ‘Wondering Thoughts’ (Bangkok, 2014) and ‘The Copla Cabaret’ (2015-20), seen in Europe and America. He featured in the West End production of ‘In The Heights’, TV sitcom ‘Episodes’ (BBC) and regularly collaborates with The Royal Ballet.
