Biography | Christie Baugher is a writer/performer originally from Louisville, Kentucky. Her musicals include LENI RIEFENSTAHL IS GOING TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH (book/music/lyrics), presented as part of the York Theatre Company’s Developmental Reading Series in October 2012 directed by Stephen Brackett; OBJECTS OF AFFECTION (book and lyrics, music by Brian Cavanagh-Strong), a thesis project developed at the NYU/Tisch Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program in 2011-12; THE NEAR TOMORROW (book/music/lyrics), workshopped in part at the University of Portsmouth in the U.K. in March of 2015, and THE FITZGERALDS OF ST. PAUL (book/music/lyrics), which received a concert presentation at 54 Below in August 2015 directed by Danny Mefford and orchestrated by Nick Myers. She is a 2015 honoree of the York Theatre Company’s NEO program, under the mentorship of Michael John LaChiusa. Christie’s work as a playwright and songwriter has been featured at 54 Below, the Duplex, the Laurie Beechman Theatre, Bowery Poetry Club, Bard College at Simon’s Rock, Tri-Arts Sharon Playhouse, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Barrington Stage Company, Two River Theater Company, York Theatre Company and the Seoul Institute of the Arts in South Korea. Christie’s choral arrangements for New York’s Peace of Heart Choir are part of the rotating soundscape at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. Christie was also once upon a time the literary manager of Specific Gravity Ensemble, a site-specific experimental theatre company based in Louisville. In addition to producing her one-act play SEVENS in April 2008, SGE also produced several of her short works as part of its ELEVATOR PLAYS anthology festivals in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Christie is a graduate of the NYU/Tisch Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program (Cycle 21) and a member of the Dramatists Guild of America. |
