David Hewson


David is a composer/lyricist, musical director and actor- musician.

Since graduating from Rose Bruford college with a 1st class degree in Actor-Musicianship he has worked on a variety of productions nationally as both performer and MD and is also the musical director of the actor-musician company Dumbwise Theatre.

For Dumbwise he composed original music for FAUST (UK National tour, Greenwich theatre), TWISTED CHRISTMAS (Liverpool Playhouse), was MD/arranger for a revival of MATCHGIRLS (Wilton’s Music Hall) and composer/MD for ELECTRA (Bunker theatre). He has also written music for adaptations of Angela Carter’s BLOODY CHAMBER and Phillip Pullman’s CLOCKWORK, both performed at Garage theatre, Norwich as part of Dumbwise’ ACE funded flagship ‘Young Actor-Muscian Academy’ programme.

Other recent MD youth theatre work includes ORPHEUS at Tobacco Factory Bristol and JOSEPH AND HIS AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT at Stafford Gatehouse.

Three of his songs have been featured in Iris Theatre’s Xmas Factor, winning audience award runner up for his song “George Osborne’s Christmas Carol.” David is also a singer-songwriter working under the moniker MAN AT SEA. He also currently teaches and MDs on the Actor-Musician degree course at Mountview Academy.
