Ishan Mahabir-Stokes

Currently studying classical ballet at The Royal Ballet School in Covent Garden. Previously studied for five years at the Young Dancers Academy in Shepard’s bush. A dancer and singer, with lots of stage experience. But most importantly a young ambitious musical theatre writer. Started off writing songs at the piano but has developed in a passion for writing new musical theatre.

The first musical I have written is an in depth look at the relationship between world famous novelists Charles Dickens and William MakePeace Thackeray. In today’s climate we write off, what we imagine, are these old white men who wrote long boring books, however there is so much more to them than this. I believe had they been around today they would have been at the forefront of social change, in attitudes towards race and gender. I have tried to capture them in a modern musical theatre style with a broad range of influences.

I have written a complete first draft, just me and my piano. I Currently have a friend helping me orchestrate on Logic, however I desperately need some experienced guidance, and a collaborator who could help me take this forward. Anyone who wants to help or be involved please don’t hesitate to contact me.
