I used to be a moderately successful writer of crime  & historical espionage [11 novels & shortlisted for a CWA Dagger in 2009] until my wife had a fall & developed early onset dementia so I promptly gave up writing and became a 24/7 carer & nothing else.  The only literary thing I did was to set up the Writers as Carers Group within the Society of Authors, a support group to help me and others in similar circumstances.  Sadly, it has flourished and now has over 50 members.  Pat’s been in care for 5 years now and I have returned to writing, not novels, that was Pat & me, now it’s scripts.
