I have been a life-long amateur musician, song writer and composer. But redundancy from my charity director job last year gave me the opportunity to make the plunge and devote myself to writing musicals full time.
The result is Romola the Musical, a jazzy, bluesy, poppy rock opera based on one of George Eliot’s lesser known works, full of catchy and moving songs. Set in Florence in 1492, it follows Romola’s journey from being a dutiful daughter, to becoming a beautiful wife, then a faithful follower until she finally finds her own voice and flowers as the people’s champion.
My challenge is to try to get it produced and performed…
