Biography

Kevin is one of Australia’s most distinguished conductors & musical directors, having conducted all over the world for thirty years. He is also an award-winning composer & arranger. He is a British resident working in New York for six months each year.

A recipient of a scholarship to study conducting at the Moscow Conservatory (1992) and subsequently awarded the Willem van Otterloo Scholarship and Bellhouse Conducting Prize (1993) to study at Opera Australia with ex-Glyndebourne Music Director, Myer Fredman, Kevin then moved to the UK in 1994. Whilst in London, he was mentored by and assisted Sir Charles Mackerras for several years during which time he also received the Australian Music Foundation in London ‘Sir Charles Mackerras Prize’ (1995) and the Tait Memorial Trust Award (1996).

Kevin’s introduction to West End theatre came courtesy of Cameron Mackintosh and the Really Useful Group, when invited to take over musical direction of the long-running production of CATS at the New London Theatre in the mid-90s. In July 2003, Kevin renewed his association for RUG, as musical director for the South Korean premiere of this show. More recently, Kevin has conducted WICKED at London’s Apollo Victoria Theatre and was the initial musical director for the first national UK/Eire tour (2013). His own musical, THE STRANGER FORM SEVILLE, received rave reviews in its first limited-season Off-Broadway production in July 2014 (www.strangerfromseville.com) and was selected for the 2nd. Florida Festival of New Musicals (2018).

In conjunction with the Estate of Maurice Walsh (author of The Quiet Man) Kevin has recently completed CASTLE GILLIAN. He is also working on a major new digital opera initiative based on two famous WWI spy-thrillers.

Kevin is often sought after for his concert orchestrations and arrangements for some of the most respected names in the music business. Since 2009, Kevin has completed new orchestrations for the National Symphony Orchestra, New York Pops, Boston Pops and for artists including, Kristin Chenoweth, Raúl Esparza, Ann Hampton Callaway, Lynn Ahrens & Stephen Flaherty, and Stephen Schwartz.

He has previously held professorial and directorial posts with several Australian universities.  He is currently the Musical Supervior for Quill & Quaver Associates LLC, a New York based music supervision and creative production company as well as Principal Conductor with the Australian Discovery Orchestra (www.australiandiscoveryorchestra.com).
