Luke Saydon

Biography

Luke is an award-winning composer, musical director and theatre practitioner, originally from Malta, now based in London. He is currently a resident performer and writer at the V&A Musuem and The Museum of LondonLuke is also the musical director for Chickenshed Theatre Company in Kensington & Chelsea, Some Voices and Wyllyotts Theatre.

The latest of his 11 professionally produced musicals, HUSH, premiered at the National Theatre of Malta as part of the Valletta European City of Culture in March 2018. In April 2019, the production won three Maltese National Arts Awards: Best Production, Best Work for Young Audiences and Best Young Artist Award for Luke as the musical’s composer.

Luke’s professional work is mainly informed by his work within communities. Luke’s first musical, The Three Sunsets (2014) is about memories and was informed by the dementia community. The Indispensable Hero (2018), a musical about our definition of a hero, was developed with child victims of the Grenfell Tower Tragedy. The Story of Stories (2019), a musical about the importance of telling stories, was developed with an intergenerational group.
