Michael Betteridge

Biography

Michael is a composer working in many different genres specialising in working in collaborative settings, working with nonprofessionals and working with voices and/or theatre.  He has previously composed and/or musically directed productions for Bolton Octagon (#chipshopthemusical) and ALRA North (Alice in WonderlandDecadesThere is a WarOnce A Catholic).  His own company, New Space Productions, has produced two site-specific musicals including There and Back Again – an actor musician production set on an inservice tram in Manchester – and Indigestion  – set in a real life working restaurant.  The latter was shortlisted for the Library Theatre Company’s re:play festival in 2012 where it was performed at The Lowry Restaurant in Salford Quays.  It has also been performed at Riverside Studios in London as part of Tete a Tete: the opera festival.

Elsewhere he conducts and is artistic director of The Sunday Boys – Manchester’s male voice singing sensation and co-artistic director of Voicings Collective – a devising music theatre company and The Aequitas Collective – an Anglo-Icelandic opera company creating works exploring notions of equality.  He works frequently in the learning and participation departments of many of this country’s leading opera companies, as well as abroad.
