Biography

With a passion for new works, Nikki’s performing focus has been in developing new musical works both in cabaret and musical theatre. Her most recent role was The Fairy Godmother in CINDERELLA in the UK. Previously she has worked on multiple premieres including Australian regional and national tours of MOTHER, WIFE & THE COMPLICATED LIFE by Amity Dry together with appearances in New York (Bec, Popjam Productions), THE SEEDY ADVENTURES OF JOHHNY STEELE (Rita, Full Swing Productions) and HELL The Musical as part of The Adelaide Fringe. She has also worked with Magnormos Productions on MILK AND HONEY (Mrs Perlman), together with a featured performance for OZMADE Musicals 10th Anniversary celebrations at the Comedy Theatre in Melbourne (2012). Other credits include INTO THE WOODS, (Little Red Riding Hood, Newtown Theatre), one of the ‘Angel City Four’ in CITY OF ANGELS (NUTS) and lead performer in SONDHEIM: A REVUE (UNSW Productions).

As a creator of work, most recently Nikki wrote and performed GO! A Mini Disaster Musical which performed in London’s West End at The Phoenix Artists Club featuring all original works by Aitken. Prior to this, she co-wrote and performed GOBSMACKED! SHOWBIZ & DATING with Jamie Burgess which featured in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Adelaide Cabaret Fringe Festival, Midsumma Festival, Auckland Pride Festival, NZ Fringe Festival and Dunedin Fringe Festival to critical acclaim and was nominated for Best Cabaret, NZ Fringe and Best Music and Cabaret for Dunedin Fringe.

Nikki has had a long history of creating new works in a cabaret format. After a London ‘Off-West-End’ production of PERMANENTLY TEMPORARY in 2008 she returned to Adelaide with THE ATTACK OF THE 40 FOOT WEDGE, which received the ATG award for the 2008/09 ‘Best Comedy Show’, was nominated in the 2009 Adelaide Fringe Awards for ‘Best Cabaret’, and received a special commendation for ‘Excellence in Songwriting’. She then toured the show to Sydney, Melbourne and New York. In 2010, her production CABARET: ALIVE AND KICKING received nominations in the 2010 Adelaide Fringe Awards for both the ‘Inspace Development’ and ‘Best Cabaret’ categories, she created the interview-style CABARET ON THE COUCH and co-wrote songs for her original cabaret VIVA LA FRANGLAISE with Adelaide Musical Director and Composer Matthew Carey (Short & Sweet Cabaret 2010 Finalist also performed in Adelaide at The Speigeltent).

She has also co-written and performed in Adelaide Fringe/Cabaret Fringe Festival productions of MY SIGNIFICANT OTHER IS A MOBILE PHONE, STICK IT TO THE MAN and I PUT OUT ON THE SECOND DATE.

Nikki trained at the Elder Conservatorium, graduating with a music degree majoring in theatre & vocal studies from the University of New South Wales.

A senior tutor for the Australian Girls Choir for over 5 years, Nikki now brings the wealth of knowledge and training she has received to students in London and is currently the Music Teacher at Cherville Primary. She has trained at Yale University as part of the International Cabaret Convention 2010 and gained tutelage in Kodaly method under Julia Pigdon, specialist in her field and completed her level 1&2 Estill Training with Anne-Marie Speed in Berlin in 2014.
