Poppy Burton-Morgan

Biography

Poppy is Artistic Director of Metta Theatre, founded in 2005 for which she has directed over 30 productions. She is also a playwright and librettist. She has two musicals currently in development: a hip hop version of Wind in The Willows which will premiere in 2019 at Exeter Northcott Theatre and a circus- folk-musical of Little Mermaid.


Previous adaptations include a street dance and circus Jungle Book  (Theatre Royal Windsor and UK tour) Alice after Lewis Carroll (UK tour), Monkey & Crocodile based on the Indian fable (Site specific UK tour), Sexing The Cherry based on the original novel by Jeanette Winterson (Southbank Centre), Luigi Pirandello’s The Man With the Flower in His Mouth (Greenwich Theatre/site-specific & Oxford Playhouse/site-specific UK tour), Federico Garcia Lorca’s Blood Wedding, (Southwark Playhouse) and the puppet show Le Livre Blanc (Riverside Studios) based on the Jean Cocteau novella of the same title.

Previous opera libretti include Palace of Junk (Mahogany Opera Group, Various Stages Festival), Flicker(Lilian Baylis Studio, Sadler’s Wells), Waiting (Southbank Centre) and The Elephant’s Child (Arcola Theatre & Trafalgar Studios).
