Rob Rokicki

Biography

Rob Rokicki is a songwriter, performer and music director in NYC. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild, Actor’s Equity, the American Federation of Musicians, and alum of the Tony Award-winning BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Writing workshop.
As a writer, Rob wrote the music and lyrics for the critically acclaimed (and Lucille Lortel Award Nominated) Off-Broadway adaptation of the popular Percy Jackson novel, THE LIGHTNING THIEF, for Theatreworks USA (book by Joe Tracz). Rob’s musical, LOVE, NY (co-written with Mike Ruby) won the 2009 American Harmony Award and was presented at New World Stages (NY), Curtain Call (CT), and Oklahoma University. Rob has had work featured in the York’s NEO series, at Lincoln Center, Joe’s Pub, Ars Nova & at universities internationally. Also with Ruby: RELATIVITY (Theatre Row, selected for The Pitch at Fingerlakes Musical Theatre Festival), 20 TO LIFE (American University), STRANGE TAILS (West Village Musical Theatre Festival; Best Musical, Best Lyrics, Best Score, Best Book; ANT fest). Composer/lyricist for MARTHA & ME (NY Fringe) and SAMSON’S FIRE (The Cell Theater), GINGERBREAD HOUSE (New York Film Academy). Broadway performers have sung his songs throughout New York, benefits across the country.
As an actor, Rob has performed in national tours including the EVITA 25th Anniversary Tour directed by Hal Prince and was featured in the SOUTH PACIFIC Concert at Carnegie Hall. Many Off-Broadway and regional credits (Carbonell Award Nomination).
As a music director, Rob music directed the New York premiere of DEPARTURE LOUNGE (dir. Christopher Gattelli) at The Public Theater; Joe Iconis’ REWRITE (also arranged for Sam French) at The Goodspeed Opera; HAIRSPRAY, at the John W. Engeman Theater, THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS, at TriArts at Sharon Playhouse and others.
Rob teaches music theory and the pop/rock workshop at Cap21 and is the Finale music guru for the children’s theatre publishing giant, iTheatrics. Rob is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a BA in English and a BFA in Musical Theatre. He recently released his first studio album featuring many Broadway friends available on itunes.
