Simone Ibbett-Brown


Simone is a theatre-maker and mezzo-soprano, passionate about work that respects, reflects and affects the world we live in.

She has been commissioned to write or direct works of music theatre for organisations including English National Opera, Immersive|LDN, Royal Opera House, Soho Theatre, and Visualise. As a performer, recent highlights include roles in productions with Bryony Kimmings, Dutch National Opera, English National Opera, and Summerhall; covers or workshops with Dirty Protest Theatre, Loud Crowd, Royal Opera House and Theater an der Wien; and as a backing vocalist for Benjamin Clementine and Sam Lee.

She is joint artistic director of Hera, celebrating and sharing music and stories by women and gender minoritised artists. Hera has made anti-ableist electronic opera starring Victoria Oruwari, feminist gig theatre starring Linda Hirst, workshopped a new musical starring Maria Friedman, and run educational programmes around the amazing, hidden women of classical music, and more.

Simone is a published playwright, BBC Radio 3 Next Generation Voice, Junior Fellow of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, member of English National Opera’s Extra Chorus, and Women of the Future Awards finalist.

She is a keen advocate for diversity and inclusion in the arts, and works on this with organisations including Arts Council England.
