Mercury Musical Developments and Musical Theatre Network are awarded funding from The Mackintosh Foundation to run the the Cameron Mackintosh Resident Writer Scheme.

Through this scheme, professional musical theatre composers and writers are paired with a company, paid for a six month residency and given the opportunity to be involved in a range of work which could include writing/composing assignments on the host company’s projects, shadowing development/rehearsal processes, and working on development of their own musical theatre material.

For 2025 the host organisation will be British Youth Music Theatre (BYMT). Applications are now closed.

The Cameron Mackintosh Resident Composer placement allowed me to take a significant step forward in my career, giving me the invaluable opportunity to form a meaningful and long-lasting relationship with the host venue The Lowry. Four years after the placement began, I am now an Associate Artist at The Lowry, contributing to their artist development programming and developing my own work with their support. Seven years into a professional career, the Cameron Mackintosh residency significantly raised my profile across the UK, and allowed me short-term relief from the juggling of freelance projects, which was a key factor in me making a transition to becoming a full-time musical theatre writer.
