Edge Hill University, Ormskirk, Lancashire, invites vibrant and innovative musical theatre writing teams from the MMD/MTN community to submit proposals for an exciting new project: the opportunity to have your original musical produced at the University in January 2026!

We are seeking submissions of completed original musicals, or musicals currently in development, specifically crafted for an ensemble cast of 10 female-identifying students, combining principal and chorus roles. This is an opportunity to showcase powerful, inspiring, and dynamic roles that celebrate diverse female experiences and amplify a range of vibrant voices.

Edge Hill University has a proud history of supporting dynamic new musicals, as demonstrated by recent successful productions such as The Forty Elephants, Pop Art, The Girl in the Hat, and Flip. These vibrant and innovative musicals have been warmly eived by audiences, providing strong platforms for emerging talents.

Selected creative teams will receive:

• Full support to develop your work without studio rental or talent costs.
• Time and space to experiment creatively in a supportive and unhurried environment.
• Collaboration with tomorrow’s brightest talents, bringing fresh perspectives and energy to your material.
• A professional team including Producer, Director, Musical Director, and Choreographer.
• Two professionally staged performances at Edge Hill University’s acclaimed Rose Theatre.
• A substantial production budget (zero financial burden on creative teams!).
• Comprehensive marketing and PR support.

• A brief synopsis (500 words) outlining your musical’s concept
• Completed Score and Libretto
• Any previously recorded material

The School Musicals Company has teamed up with MMD to create a brand new commissioning opportunity for members of MMD. Open solely to members, The School Musicals Company will be commissioning a new musical for publication within its Secondary School collection. The musical should be appropriate for performance by children aged 11-16+ within schools and youth theatres, both in the UK and abroad. The initial fee for this commission is £1500 plus generous royalties.
